Signature Generator
Signature Generator is a free tool that makes a transparent PNG of your signature. Type your name in one of 10 handwriting fonts, draw it with a mouse or finger, or upload a photo of your handwritten signature and remove the paper background. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. The result is an image, not a legally binding e-signature.

Please note: This tool makes a picture of a signature. It is not a legally binding e-signature service. It doesn't verify who you are, create an audit trail, or certify documents. For contracts that require a verified electronic signature, use a dedicated e-signature provider, and only ever create or use a signature that is your own.
How to Make a Signature Online
How do I create a signature from my name?
- Open the Type tab and enter your name the way you'd sign it, such as "Jane Smith" or "J. Smith."
- Tap any of the 10 cursive styles to preview it.
- Pick an ink color (black and blue look the most natural) and a size.
- Click Download transparent PNG. The image has no background, so it sits cleanly on top of documents.
Can I draw my own signature instead?
Yes. The Draw tab works with a mouse, a trackpad, a finger on your phone, or a stylus such as an Apple Pencil (stylus pressure changes the line weight). Use Undo to remove the last stroke. When you download, the image is trimmed to your signature automatically.
How do I remove the background from a signature photo?
- Sign your name on plain white paper with a dark pen or marker.
- Take a photo straight on, in bright, even light, and avoid casting a shadow with your phone.
- Upload it in the Upload a photo tab. The tool picks an ink threshold automatically, and you can fine-tune it with the slider.
- Choose an ink color, keep "Crop to the signature" turned on, and download your transparent PNG.
Under the hood, the tool evens out the lighting, then makes every pixel lighter than the threshold transparent and keeps the darker pixels as ink. It's simple thresholding, not AI, so a clean photo gives the best result.
How do I add my signature to a PDF or Word document?
In Microsoft Word or Google Docs, insert the PNG like any other picture and set text wrapping to "In front of text" so you can place it on the signature line. On a Mac, Preview can add images to PDFs, and most PDF editors have an "Add image" option. Because the PNG is transparent, the lines and text underneath stay visible.
Is a signature made here legally binding?
This site only creates an image. Whether an image of a signature is acceptable depends on the document and on who you're sending it to. In the U.S., the ESIGN Act generally allows electronic signatures, but some agreements require identity verification or a specific signing platform. If you're unsure, ask the person or company requesting your signature. This isn't legal advice.
Is my signature private?
Yes. Your name, drawing, and photo are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded or saved. Close the page and they're gone. See our Privacy Policy.
Which fonts are used?
Great Vibes, Dancing Script, Allura, Alex Brush, Sacramento, Mr Dafoe, Herr Von Muellerhoff, Cedarville Cursive, La Belle Aurore, and Pinyon Script. All are free fonts licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and are hosted on this site, so your browser doesn't contact any font service. View the font licenses.
