Text to Handwriting Converter
Text to Handwriting is a free online converter that turns typed or pasted text into realistic handwriting. Pick one of 8 handwriting fonts, an ink color, size, line spacing, slant and paper (lined, legal pad, graph, dot grid, blank or transparent), then download PNG or multi-page PDF pages sized for Goodnotes, US Letter, A4 or A5. Ink only mode gives a transparent background. It runs in your browser with no upload and no watermark.

Type or paste your text, choose a handwriting font, ink color and paper, and watch it turn into handwriting as you type. Download each page as a PNG, or every page as one PDF, in Goodnotes Standard, US Letter, A4 or A5 size. Turn on Ink only to get a transparent background you can drop onto any notebook page. Everything happens in your browser.
Exports just the handwriting with no paper, so you can place it over your own notebook template in Goodnotes, Notability or a design app.
One page downloads as a PNG. More than one page downloads as a ZIP file of PNGs, one per page.
Use it honestly: this tool is made for notes, journals, planners, cards, mockups and design projects. Please don't use it to pass off typed work as your own handwriting where handwriting is required, such as a school assignment.
How to Convert Text to Handwriting
Step by step
- Type or paste your text into the box. Line breaks and blank lines are kept.
- Pick a handwriting font, an ink color and a text size.
- Choose the paper (lined, legal pad, graph, dot grid, blank or transparent) and the line spacing. College ruled and wide ruled are one click away.
- Adjust Natural variation and Slant until it looks hand-written. Click Shuffle variation for a different random pattern.
- Pick a page size: Goodnotes Standard, US Letter, A4 or A5. Long text flows onto as many pages as it needs.
- Turn on Ink only if you want a transparent background, then click Download PDF or Download PNG.
Is this text to handwriting converter really free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many pages you make or download. PNG and PDF are both free, including the transparent versions.
How do I get handwriting with a transparent background?
Turn on Ink only (or choose Transparent as the paper). The preview switches to a checkerboard so you can see which parts are see-through. If a paper style is selected, its lines show faintly as guides, but they aren't included in the download. The PNG then contains only the ink on a fully transparent background, and the PDF pages have no paper behind the text either.
How do I use the handwriting in Goodnotes or Notability?
- Set the page size to Goodnotes Standard for Goodnotes, or US Letter for Notability (its default page size), so the pages fit without being scaled.
- For a new notebook, download the PDF and open it in the app (tap Share, then choose Goodnotes or Notability, or use the app's Import option). Each page becomes a notebook page you can write on.
- To put the text on a page you already have, such as a planner or a lined template, turn on Ink only, download the PNG, and insert it with the app's image tool. Because the background is transparent, the template underneath stays visible. Resize and move it like any other image.
In most note apps an imported PDF shows on a plain white page, so the transparent PNG is the easiest way to layer handwriting over an existing template.
Which page sizes can I export?
Goodnotes Standard (6.32 × 8.17 in, the size Goodnotes uses for its standard paper), US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), A4 (210 × 297 mm) and A5 (148 × 210 mm), in portrait or landscape. High quality exports at 300 DPI, which stays sharp when printed. Standard quality uses 150 DPI for smaller files.
How do I make it look like real handwriting?
Real handwriting is never perfectly even. The Natural variation slider moves each letter slightly up or down, tilts it a little, changes its size a touch, varies the ink darkness and makes the spacing between words uneven. Around 40 to 60 looks natural; 0 gives a clean, font-like result. Slant leans every letter left or right. Blue or black ink on lined paper with a font like Caveat, Kalam or Indie Flower is usually the most convincing.
Can I convert a long document?
Yes. Paste up to 30,000 characters and the text wraps and flows onto new pages automatically. The PDF contains every page, and the PNG download gives you a ZIP file with one PNG per page. Each preview page also has its own PNG button.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Your text is laid out and drawn on your own device, and the PNG and PDF files are created in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or saved, so closing the page clears it. See our Privacy Policy.
Which handwriting fonts are included?
Caveat, Indie Flower, Patrick Hand, Shadows Into Light, Kalam, Gloria Hallelujah, Architects Daughter and Reenie Beanie. All are free fonts under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and are hosted on this site, so your browser doesn't contact any font service. View the font licenses.
Why do some characters look different?
The fonts cover the English alphabet, numbers and common punctuation, and most also cover accented letters used in Western European languages. Characters a font doesn't include, such as emoji or Chinese, Japanese and Korean text, are drawn in a regular system font instead, so they won't look hand-written.
Can I use this for homework?
Only where typed work is allowed anyway. If a teacher or school asks for handwritten work, they expect you to write it yourself, and turning in generated handwriting instead can count as academic dishonesty. Use this tool for notes, study guides, journals, greeting cards, social posts and design mockups.
