Crop Video

Crop Video is a free tool that cuts away the edges of a video. Drag and resize the crop box on a frame of your video, or choose a preset shape such as 9:16 for TikTok and Reels, 1:1 square, 4:5 for Instagram posts or 16:9 for YouTube, and fine-tune the exact pixels. It saves an H.264 MP4 with the original sound. It runs in your browser, so your video is never uploaded.

How do I crop a horizontal video to vertical for TikTok or Reels?

Choose "9:16 Vertical" and slide the box over your subject. The box keeps the 9:16 shape as you resize it. A 1920 x 1080 video becomes a 606 x 1080 vertical video, which TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts accept as is. If you'd rather keep the whole picture with blurred or black bars, use Resize Video with a vertical size instead.

Does cropping lower the quality?

Cropping keeps the original pixels in the area you choose; it doesn't stretch them. The video is re-encoded with a bitrate matched to the original, so it looks practically the same. The cropped video has fewer pixels, so it will look smaller on a big screen.

Why are the crop numbers always even?

H.264 video, the most widely playable format, stores color at half resolution, so the width, height and position need to be even numbers. The tool rounds for you so the video plays everywhere.

Does it keep the sound?

Yes. AAC sound is copied over unchanged. Other audio formats are converted. Uncheck "Keep the sound" for a silent video.

Which browsers does it work in?

It works in current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or newer, on computers, Android phones, iPhones and iPads. Firefox 130 or newer on a computer usually works too. The tool uses WebCodecs, the browser's built-in video encoder, which is often hardware accelerated. If your browser doesn't support it, the page tells you right away. On a phone, drag the box with one finger.

Is there a file size limit?

Up to 2 GB on a computer and 1 GB on a phone or tablet. The new file is put together in your browser's memory, so very large videos could crash the tab. Long videos just take longer. Speed depends on your device; computers and phones with hardware video encoding are often faster than real time.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your video is read from your device, processed by your browser and saved back to your device. It never touches a server, which also means there's no upload to wait for. See our Privacy Policy.
