Resize Video
Resize Video is a free tool that changes the resolution of a video. Scale it to 1080p, 720p, 480p or a percentage, or fit it into a social media size like 1080 x 1920 for Stories or 1080 x 1080 for a square post, with black bars or by filling the frame. It saves an H.264 MP4 with the original sound. It runs in your browser, so your video is never uploaded.

How to Resize a Video
Step by step
- Choose a video from your computer or phone.
- Pick a new size: a resolution like 720p, a percentage, a social media size or your own width and height.
- For social sizes, choose whether to fit the whole picture with black bars or fill the frame.
- Click Resize video.
- Play the result and download the MP4.
What does 1080p or 720p mean for a vertical video?
The number is the shorter side. A 720p landscape video is 1280 x 720, and a 720p vertical phone video is 720 x 1280. The tool always keeps your video's shape for these presets and rounds to even numbers, which H.264 needs.
How do I resize a video for Instagram Stories or TikTok?
Choose "1080 x 1920 vertical." If your video is horizontal, pick "Fit inside with black bars" to keep the whole picture, or "Fill the frame" to zoom in and crop the sides. To choose exactly which part to keep, use Crop Video with the 9:16 shape first.
Can I make a video bigger?
Yes, but it won't add detail. Upscaling a 480p video to 1080p only makes the file bigger. The tool warns you when the new size is larger than the original. Making a video smaller is a good way to shrink the file; for a specific size limit, Compress Video is even better.
Does it keep the sound?
Yes. AAC sound is copied over unchanged. Other audio formats are converted. Uncheck "Keep the sound" for a silent video.
Which browsers does it work in?
It works in current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or newer, on computers, Android phones, iPhones and iPads. Firefox 130 or newer on a computer usually works too. The tool uses WebCodecs, the browser's built-in video encoder, which is often hardware accelerated. If your browser doesn't support it, the page tells you right away.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 2 GB on a computer and 1 GB on a phone or tablet. The new file is put together in your browser's memory, so very large videos could crash the tab. Long videos just take longer. Speed depends on your device; computers and phones with hardware video encoding are often faster than real time.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your video is read from your device, processed by your browser and saved back to your device. It never touches a server, which also means there's no upload to wait for. See our Privacy Policy.
